Qualcomm Technologies Announces Industry’s First Comprehensive Modem-to-Antenna Solution Featured in Xperia XZ2 Smartphone


Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM), today announced that the entire Qualcomm® RF Front End (RFFE) modem-to-antenna solution along with the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 845 Mobile Platform with X20 Gigabit LTE, and 4K HDR video capture are featured in Sony Mobile’s new Xperia XZ2 smartphone. Qualcomm Technologies is the first company in the semiconductor industry to deliver a comprehensive solution from modem to antenna ports for use in a leading premium smartphone. Utilizing Qualcomm Technologies’ comprehensive solution – including for the first time, the entire Qualcomm RFFE suite – allows Sony Mobile to benefit from system level optimization which facilitates the delivery of global platforms with superior connectivity performance and power efficiency.

The Qualcomm RFFE solution harnesses radio complexity and simplifies the implementation of global Gigabit LTE in mobile devices with a system-level design spanning a suite of RFFE products that utilize modem intelligence and are tightly integrated in a set of comprehensive global RF front end modules. It also helps OEMs to provide superior RF performance and power efficiency to support high data rates in real world networks.

Qualcomm Technologies’ modem-to-antenna solution comprises a suite of RFFE components including:

- Power Amplifier Modules including Duplexers (PAMiDs). The QPM2621, QPM2632 and QPM2643 PAMiDs support the global low, mid and high bands respectively and integrate our suite of PAs, duplexers/filters including SAW, TC-SAW and BAW technologies, switches and an antenna coupler.
- QET4100 Envelope Tracker (ET). The envelope tracker utilizes modem intelligence to dynamically adjust the voltage supplied to the radio frequency (RF) amplifier to support peak operating efficiency thereby reducing power consumption and heat.
- Advanced Antenna Tuning. QAT3550 Impedance Tuner provide advanced adaptive antenna tuning. This technology utilizes modem intelligence to dynamically optimize the antenna match with the active transmit and receive frequencies to mitigate signal degradation from hand blocking, metal back designs and other effects, and is designed to improve throughput, call reliability and reduced power/battery consumption.
- QDM3620, QDM3630, QDM3640 Diversity Receive Modules. These diversity receive modules combine our switches, BAW and SAW filters and low-noise amplifiers into a highly integrated module that is a user-friendly solution for implementing high-order MIMO and diversity receive paths for global LTE Advanced and Gigabit LTE architectures.

The QPM2621, QPM2632, QPM2643 PAMiDs, QAT3550 antenna impedance tuner, and QDM3620, QDM3630, QDM3640 diversity receive modules are supported for use with the Snapdragon X20 LTE modem and Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform.

Qualcomm RFFE modem-to-antenna solution is engineered to help operators maximize the use of all licensed, shared and unlicensed spectrum assets while delivering superior network coverage, device performance and worldwide roaming. With this solution, device OEMs can scale their products globally with support of hundreds of carrier aggregation and 4x4 MIMO combinations delivering connection speeds up to 1.2 Gigabit per second LTE.

Qualcomm and Leading Automotive Companies Across the Globe Drive the Commercialization of C-V2X


- Leading Automakers Support for C-V2X Continues; Tier-1 Suppliers and Other Ecosystem Participants Seek to Utilize Qualcomm 9150 C-V2X Chipset Solutions for Next Generation Vehicles and Roadside Infrastructure -

Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) today announced that its subsidiary, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., is working with an ecosystem of leading carmakers and automotive suppliers to accelerate the commercial introduction of Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) technology using the Qualcomm® 9150 C-V2X chipset solution. C-V2X is a global solution for V2X communications designed to support improved automotive safety, automated driving, and traffic efficiency. Tier-1 suppliers, cellular module manufacturers, software solution providers and system integrators have expressed their support for the deployment of C-V2X techonology in upcoming production vehicles and roadside units (RSU) starting in 2019. Qualcomm Technologies is currently conducting C-V2X field validations working with car manufacturers and automotive ecosystem participants in Germany, France, Korea, China, Japan and the U.S.

Automotive ecosystem participants interested in delivering next generation products incorporating C-V2X technology using Qualcomm Technologies’ solutions include Tier-1 suppliers LG Electronics, Continental, Ficosa-Panasonic, Lear and Valeo, as well as cellular module manufacturers Gemalto, LG Innotek, Quectel, Sierra Wireless, Telit, WNC and ZTE. Qualcomm Technologies is also working with V2X software stack and application providers Cohda Wireless, Commsignia and Savari, along with system integrators Sasken and Thundersoft, to expedite C-V2X commercialization by helping the automotive ecosystem to take advantage of the industry’s decade-long investment in ITS software and standardized protocols such as ETSI-ITS, IEEE WAVE and SAE.

C-V2X is designed to be globally compatible with 5G and complement other Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) sensors, such as cameras, radar and LIDAR. C-V2X direct communication mode is designed to offer vehicles low latency communications for Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V), Vehicle-to-Roadside Infrastructure (V2I) and Vehicle-to-Pedestrian (V2P) without the involvement of a cellular network, or cellular network subscription, by operating on designated and harmonized 5.9 GHz ITS spectrum. C-V2X continues to gain worldwide support in the automotive industry and broader transportation ecosystem, with trials taking place across the globe. The 5G Automotive Association (5GAA), an industry organization which supports C-V2X, currently has over 70 members including automakers, Tier-1 suppliers, mobile operators, semiconductor companies, test equipment vendors, telecom suppliers, traffic signal suppliers and road operators.

Automakers planning to integrate V2X solutions also benfit from the cost-effectiveness of C-V2X. Analysis from technology consultinf firm, P3 North America, found that a fully integrated system with C-V2X integrated with existing LTE-based telematics units is the most cost-effective solution amongst V2X implementations.

The 9150 C-V2X chipset solution features improved direct communication range, reliability and latency in the face of congested roadways. With a strong evolution path in 3GPP to 5G New Radio (NR), Qualcomm Technologies continues to invest in the C-V2X roadmap to offer new and complementary capabilities. To meet automakers’ production needs, the 9150 C-V2X chipset solution is planned to be commercially available in the second half of 2018 with select suppliers expected to launch solutions based on the 9150 C-V2X chipset solution shortly thereafter.

Qualcomm Technologies Announces the Introduction of Qualcomm Wireless Edge Services


Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM), today announced Qualcomm® wireless edge services a set of trusted software services designed to meet the requirements of new Enterprise and Industrial IoT customers to securely provision, connect and manage long life-cycles of billions of intelligent wireless devices through their cloud platforms. Qualcomm wireless edge services software is expected to be exposed through new APIs and available on select Qualcomm Technologies’ chipsets – initially the MDM9206, MDM9628 and QCA4020 – and later on, select Qualcomm Snapdragon™ platforms.

As the relevance, capability and intelligence of the wireless edge increases, Qualcomm Technologies continues to evolve its leading Snapdragon portfolio to better serve and accelerate the realization of the data driven transformation central to our 5G vision. Qualcomm wireless edge services is anticipated to facilitate the integration, processing, analysis, learning and trusted exchange of information with wireless edge devices and unlock new use cases, services, ecosystems and business models, creating additional value across many industries.

With security rooted in the chipset hardware, Qualcomm wireless edge services is designed to assist large enterprise, industrial cloud providers and users in provisioning and managing massive amounts of connected 4G and 5G devices in a trusted, security-rich and scalable manner. It is also engineered to support a new Chipsets as a Service (CaaS) business model, in which the value of certain chipset capabilities can be realized through services.

Specifically, Qualcomm wireless edge services is expected to provide trusted device services as well as strong protection against compromised devices and network attacks through hardware-based device integrity. Qualcomm wireless edge services is designed to facilitate the deployment of edge devices at scale, as well as efficient zero-touch life-cycle management through services such as plug n play onboarding, on-demand, over-the-air feature activation, emergency and routine upgrades as well as third party service enablement throughout the device life-cycle. “With the introduction of Qualcomm wireless edge services, we continue to evolve and augment our leading Snapdragon portfolio to better serve our expanding base of customers across many industries and unlock the potential associated with trusted wireless access to billions of increasingly capable edge devices” said Serge Willenegger, senior vice president and general manager, 4G/5G and Industrial IOT, Qualcomm Wireless GmbH. “We are excited by the initial response from cloud, enterprise and industrial companies and are looking forward to working with them as well as our traditional customers to accelerate the transformative opportunity supported by advanced security, intelligence and wireless connectivity capability at the edge.”

Qualcomm wireless edge services is designed for and expected to be applicable across multiple segments and initially be offered on Qualcomm’s MDM9206 LTE Modem for Industrial IoT products, MDM9628 LTE Modem for Automotive products and QCA4020 for Home IoT products, which require extremely reliable connectivity and security. The initial support of Qualcomm wireless edge services on these chipsets is anticipated to be available in 2H 2018.

Qualcomm Continues Gigabit LTE Leadership with World’s First Announced 2 Gbps LTE Modem


Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) today announced that its subsidiary, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., has started sampling the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ X24 LTE modem, the world’s first announced Category 20 LTE modem supporting up to 2 gigabits per second (Gbps) download speeds, and the first-announced chip built on a leading-edge 7 nanometer FinFET process. It is the Company’s eighth generation LTE multimode modem and third generation Gigabit LTE solution, featuring the most advanced cellular features of any commercially available 4G LTE modem to date, and strengthening the LTE foundation for future 5G NR multimode devices and networks. The Snapdragon X24 LTE modem will be featured in a live demonstration at Mobile World Congress Barcelona in conjunction with Ericsson, Telstra and NETGEAR.

As the world’s first commercially announced Category 20 LTE modem supporting download speeds up to 2 Gbps, the Snapdragon X24 LTE modem delivers 2x the speed of the Company’s first generation Gigabit LTE modem. The Snapdragon X24 supports up to 7x carrier aggregation in the downlink, as well as 4x4 MIMO on up to five aggregated LTE carriers – both mobile industry firsts – for a total of up to 20 concurrent spatial LTE streams. This unprecedented feature set is designed to allow devices that feature the Snapdragon X24 LTE modem to utilize all spectrum assets available from a mobile operator, whether in licensed spectrum, or with License Assisted Access (LAA). Additional system capacity improvements are made possible through support of Full Dimension Multi-Input Multi-Output (FD-MIMO), a Massive MIMO technology that is foundational to future 5G NR networks. In the uplink, Snapdragon X24 supports Category 20 upload speeds, 3x20 MHz CA and up to 256-QAM.

The Snapdragon X24 LTE modem pairs with an advanced RF transceiver built in 14 nm FinFET process technology, and the Qualcomm® QET5100 Envelope Tracker, making it the first announced modem to support 60 MHz envelope tracking for up to 3x uplink carrier aggregation channels with simultaneous High Power User Equipment (HPUE) support in Band 41, engineered to deliver power-efficient connectivity for the next generation of mobile devices. Consumers will also benefit from the Snapdragon X24 modem’s support for the concurrent multi-constellation multi-frequency global navigation satellite system (GNSS), which is optimized to provide highly accurate location positioning required in different applications and services.

With the Snapdragon X24 LTE modem’s fiber-like Internet speeds delivered wirelessly, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) can offer consumers incredible mobile experiences such as immersive 360-degree video, connected cloud computing, rich entertainment and instant apps. At the same time, operators can gain flexibility in using their spectrum assets to offer blazing fast speeds to consumers, while also improving their network capacity and maximizing spectral efficiency.

Snapdragon 845 takes mobile security to a new level. Connect globally at Gigabit speeds
We announced our Snapdragon X20 modem as a discrete part earlier this year and now have integrated the X20 into the Snapdragon 845 platform. This expanded flexibility allows for 90 percent of the world’s cellular networks to upgrade to Gigabit LTE.

Celebrating 10 years of innovation with Snapdragon


A decade is a lifetime when you realize how fast technology has matured from one generation to another, when innovation occurs at a torrid pace, and when mobile devices keep going through iterations of awesomeness. That’s because Qualcomm Technologies and the Qualcomm Snapdragon Mobile Platform have been there every step of the way, and it’s great to look back to see how far we’ve come, and to wish Snapdragon a happy 10th anniversary.

When Qualcomm was founded in 1985, its earliest products were exclusively cellular modem technologies for quality communications. The most popular use for modems back in those days was for tracking and communications among trucking fleets. Fast forward a few years and people were soon carrying these modems in pocket-sized computers. We started calling them smartphones.

Qualcomm Technologies set out to develop technology that would deliver more than just the communication requirements of smartphones — to design a full-blown computer system with handheld portability in mind. Unlike traditional PCs, smartphones aren’t always plugged into a power source, nor do they have fans that keep them from overheating. Our computer system solution had to be fast, but it also had to stay cool while sipping as little power as possible to support all day battery life.

Ten years ago, we introduced our first smartphone computer system-on-a-chip, the Qualcomm Snapdragon platform. Snapdragon is engineered to integrate the technology required to drive the features you love in your smartphone: a GPU, CPU, DSP, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Camera ISP, cellular modem, and much more.

Each new generation of Snapdragon packed in more technology, more performance, more battery life, while staying within its miniature physical footprint. The first-generation Snapdragon was built using a 65nm process node. Generally speaking, smaller process nodes mean smaller transistors, which reduces power and increases speed. Today’s flagship Snapdragon 835 was developed on a process node that is 6X smaller — just 10nm. And it features more diverse technologies than most desktop computers: cellular modem, GPS, NFC, support for multiple high-quality cameras, and more.

While Snapdragon was originally designed with smartphones in mind, its evolution in features, performance, and power consumption has made it desirable for many different products, including tablets, automobiles, smartwatches, drones, virtual and augmented reality glasses. And we expect that early next year you’ll be able to purchase Windows PCs powered by Snapdragon.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Snapdragon mobile platform, and we’re thrilled to see how much Snapdragon has driven innovation in the mobile industry and beyond. We can’t wait to show you what the next big things will be.

HTC introduces VIVE WAVE VR SDK and VIVE FOCUS for VR in China


Today is an important milestone for VR in China. One of the VR industry leaders, Vive, has announced that they are extending their product line, vast content library, and open platform offering to Mobile VR, with the newly launched Vive Wave VR open platform, and also the Vive Focus standalone VR headset, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 VR Platform. They will be offering the Vive Wave platform for OEMs to implement on their devices to help stimulate the VR ecosystem in China and reach more consumers.

It is already widely recognized that mobile is going to drive the next wave of innovations in XR (VR and AR). Consumers want low-friction experiences, ease of use and installation, and high performance in affordable devices — attributes that the mobile industry has consistently shown to offer given its scale, speed of innovation, and low-power. Mobile VR can be realized with either smartphone slot-in viewers or standalone head-mounted displays (HMDs but also called all-in-one).

The Wave VR SDK offers an open interface that enables interoperability between numerous mobile VR headsets and accessories, with Viveport as the content platform for compatible devices. This allows VR content developers to efficiently and attentively develop content while offering them a broad reach of potential customers across multiple vendors. Meanwhile, hardware vendors are able to focus on true device innovation versus fundamental VR optimization, with access to much needed high-quality VR content through the Viveport platform. Interested Vive Wave developers who didn’t come to the event can directly apply online at Vive’s developer portal.

Qualcomm Technologies has been working on mobile VR in China for the past several years. From the beginning, we recognized the tremendous growth opportunity in the region and started working to grow the ecosystem with OEMs, ODMs, developers and content providers, independent hardware and software vendors, accessory manufacturers, and business verticals. However, as with most new revolutionary products, the speed of progress was hampered due to multiple and conflicting platforms and lack of available and compelling content and apps.

As strong believers in the potential of XR as the next generation of mobile experiences and in the adoption rate in China, we started working with HTC Vive to fulfill the missing gaps and ultimately improve and expand the experiences to consumers. We found great synergies between what Qualcomm Technologies had to offer with its mobile SoCs, VR software, and HMD Accelerator Program, and Vive’s VR open platform including the new Vive Wave VR SDK, Viveport content platform, and their vast developer community.

HTC also announced Vive’s first standalone VR headset for the China region: the Vive Focus. This exciting device represents the core essence of the superior integrated mobile VR experience, designed to provide ease of use with no cable or complex setup, “world-scale” tracking with 6-degree of freedom (6DOF) motion tracking, and a high-resolution AMOLED screen. It is powered by the advanced features of the Snapdragon 835 VR platform and utilizes the Vive Wave platform, including a rich library of VR content available on the Viveport. Over 35 Chinese and global content developers have already built VR content optimized for Vive Wave and more are expected for the product launch.

“With Vive Focus, we are excited to now be able to bring high-quality 6Dof VR experiences, which were previously only available on tethered devices, to a more convenient and portable form factor,” said Alvin Wang Graylin, China Regional President of Vive, HTC.

Qualcomm Signs Memoranda of Understanding with Xiaomi, OPPO and vivo as Part of a Bilateral Trade Mission


Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM), today announced that it has signed three non-binding memoranda of understanding (MoU) wherein Xiaomi Communications Co., Ltd., Guangdong OPPO Mobile Telecommunications Corp., Ltd. and vivo Communication Technology Co., Ltd. each expresses a nonbinding interest in the purchase of components with an aggregate value of no less than $12 billion over the next three years. The MoUs were signed at a ceremony at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing led by President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping and President of the United States Donald Trump. Qualcomm CEO Steve Mollenkopf was part of President Trump’s Department of Commerce Trade Delegation to China, that included executives of leading American companies.

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun, OPPO CEO Chen Mingyong and vivo CEO Shen Wei attended and signed for their respective companies.

“I’m honored to represent Qualcomm as part of this important Trade delegation, which showcases the importance of win-win business relationships between the U.S. and China,” said Steve Mollenkopf, chief executive officer, Qualcomm Incorporated. “Qualcomm has longstanding relationships with Xiaomi, OPPO and vivo and we are continuing our commitment to investing and helping advance China’s mobile and semiconductor industries.”

LG V30 and Snapdragon 835 unite for premium photography, security, and mobile VR smartphone


Blazing-fast Gigabit LTE connectivity, virtually lag-free HDR video capture, and advanced mobile AI: These are just some of the trailblazing features users will find in the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 powered LG V30, the latest addition to LG's flagship V series of smartphones.

On the outside, LG reports that the V30 boasts numerous mobile industry-first innovations, including the first F1.6 Crystal Clear Lens, and the first OLED FullVision display. On the inside, the Snapdragon 835 helps the V30 take advantage of cutting-edge digital features such as voice UI, responsive VR, and advanced biometric security. This potent combination of bleeding-edge hardware and next-level software makes the V30 one of the most capable mobile devices out there.

Connectivity
The V30 is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon X16 LTE modem, and it supports some the most advanced LTE features of any smartphone. This includes Gigabit LTE for incredibly fast download speeds that enhance all connected apps, 4x4 MIMO technology with double the number of antennas of typical smartphones for fast speeds in weak signal areas, and LAA technology for fast speeds in crowded places. In addition, it’s the first phone to support LTE connections in the 600-MHz band, giving it superior coverage on compatible networks. In all, these advanced wireless features are designed to provide users the speed and coverage they need for high-quality video and music streaming, VR immersion, and near-instantaneous access to files in the cloud.

Photos and video
The V30 brings new advancements in mobile photography, pairing the latest hardware with intuitive software for a unique experience. The main camera features F1.6 Crystal Clear Lens. The glass lens on the 16MP standard-angle camera and 13MP wide-angle camera on the back capture brighter and more vivid colors than photos taken with traditional plastic mobile lenses.

LG claims another industry first is the inclusion of Point Zoom. While typical cameras only zoom in on the center of a frame, the software algorithms on the V30 zoom in anywhere smoothly, regardless of an object’s position on screen.

Cine Video mode bundles a number of innovative tools that add the cinematic hues of various movie genres to videos. Fifteen pre-set Cine Effects can transform a normal video into a romantic comedy, summer blockbuster, mystery, thriller, or classic film. The manual camera mode gives even more creative power when paired with the Graphy app. In Manual Mode, users can select images from Graphy and apply preset metadata, like white balance, shutter speed, aperture, and ISO, to photos.

HDR video capture and HDR10 playback
One of the most exciting trends in mobile photography is High Dynamic Range (HDR). Not only is the V30 able to capture stunning HDR photos, but it can also shoot virtually lag-free HDR video. HDR photos are created by stitching together the best parts of numerous images taken at different exposures; in order to bring HDR quality to video without almost any lag, the V30 alternates the exposure of pixels in a single image. And it all happens nearly instantly — HDR is even available in the live preview.

The approach to HDR video also allows the V30 to capture full-resolution HDR photos without virtually any shutter lag. This near-real-time HDR-capture ability is made possible by the 14-bit Qualcomm Spectra 180 Image Sensor Processor (ISP), which has been designed to take on this type of heavy image lifting without a strain on battery life. In other words, there’s no need for battery anxiety when shooting in HDR.

The new OLED display on the LG V30 provides amazing contrast and ultra wide color gamut, providing the ideal canvas to render immersive HDR content on. Combined with advanced HDR tone mapping performed by the Adreno DPU on the Snapdragon 835, users can experience next generation HDR10 content from providers such as Netflix and Amazon.

“HDR10 playback delivers a viewing experience the way Hollywood intended,” says Don McGuire, VP of Product Marketing for Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.

Many movies and TV shows on Netflix and Amazon are already available in HDR10 (Consumers may see content branded as “Ultra HD Premium.”), and more outlets are sure to follow.

Audio
LG also highlights that the V30 is the first global smartphone to support MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) technology, the V30 streams high-resolution audio files that duplicate the quality of the original studio’s master version. The phone is also equipped with a Hi-Fi Quad DAC, with audio tuning by B&O PLAY sound engineers. Presets that mix-and-match sound frequencies and decibel scales provide superior audio quality.

Voice
The V30 is equipped with a Voice Recognition feature, which uses a combination of the user’s voice and user-defined keywords (optimally three to five syllables) to “wake up” the V30. (But don’t worry about security, the technology is smart enough to distinguish the user’s voice from others.) This is also available even when the V30 plays music. The Qualcomm Aqstic audio codec (WCD9340) in combination with advanced Aqstic voice UI technology is engineered to provide the phone with virtually always-on, always-listening capabilities without draining its battery.

The Google AI Assistant’s “OK Google” hotword is baked-in to the DSP inside the Aqstic audio codec for using voice commands to direct the phone to perform a variety of functions. For example, say “OK Google, take a romantic ‘Cine Video’,” and the V30 will open the camera with the “Romantic” pre-set filter ready to go. Linking compatible LG products, like washing machines, refrigerators, ovens, air conditioners, and robot vacuums, to the phone is also possible. Simply say, “OK Google, talk to LG to wash my clothes,” to start a load of laundry.

Security
In addition to using the Aqstic UI for security-rich access to the phone, users can take advantage of its facial recognition technology. LG’s Face Recognition technology the V30 is engineered to be unlocked almost instantaneously using the front-facing camera and without pressing any buttons, even when the phone’s display is off. This feature is supported by the “phone tilt” algorithm from Qualcomm Technologies based on input running on the Snapdragon sensor core. A fingerprint sensor on the phone’s back provides an additional layer of security, so the device can be unlocked by tapping a Knock Code on the screen.

Power
The innovative features of the V30 also extend to its intelligently designed battery. Equipped with Quick Charge 3.0, this 3,300 mAh battery charges from empty to 50 percent in around 30 minutes. It also provides convenient wireless charging, efficiently consuming power to keep users snapping photos, streaming VR, or recording video for longer.

Display
The V30’s large six-inch, 18:9 ratio QHD+ (2880 x 1440) OLED FullVision display delivers a stunning viewing experience. It offers fast response time with minimal afterimages when viewing an action-packed movie or playing a game with quick movements.

LG’s Second Screen functionality evolves into the new Always-on Display (AOD) and a new Floating Bar for the V30’s home screen. When the display is turned off, the AOD appears with shortcuts to the music player or Quick Tools. On the homescreen, the optional, semi-transparent Floating Bar can be customized with five favorite apps.

Virtual Reality
The Snapdragon 835’s built-in Adreno 540 GPU supports Daydream, Google’s platform for high-quality VR gaming. With Daydream, users can explore new video game worlds and stream cinematic experiences in stunning VR. The V30 takes full advantage of this rapid response time and the exceptional graphics delivered by the Snapdragon 835 to put users in the center of the action.

Design
The V30 is durable and lightweight. Designed with the same H-beam design used in modern skyscrapers, LG emphasizes that the 158g metal frame is the lightest smartphone in the six-inch and over category. With an IP68 water and dust resistant ranking, the V30 can be immersed in up to 1.5 meters of water for as long as 30 minutes without impacting its use. Both sides of the phone are sealed with Gorilla Glass 5, Corning’s most advanced tempered glass, which has passed 14 categories of the U.S. Department of Defense’s durability drop tests. That means the V30 can be used in a variety of environments.

The LG V30 comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The phone is available in Aurora Block, Cloud Silver, Moroccan Blue and Lavender Violet. The LG V30+ has 128GB of storage and will only be available in select regions.

New ASUS ZenFone 4 Pro is first with Gigabit LTE and multi-gigabit 802.11ad Wi-Fi



Marking a milestone in mobile devices, the ASUS ZenFone 4 Pro with Gigabit connectivity is the world’s first commercially available smartphone to feature both 802.11ad Wi-Fi connectivity and Gigabit LTE. When on the go, the Snapdragon X16 LTE modem supports peak download speeds up to 1 Gbps (that’s fiber optic speeds sans the fiber). The Snapdragon 835 connects to Wi-Fi via multi-gigabit 802.11ad, which supports blazing fast theoretical peak speeds of up to 4.6 Gbps.

Photo and video
The ZenFone 4 Pro is part of an ASUS family of smartphones that feature dual rear and front cameras. Combined with the ultra-fast LTE connectivity of the Snapdragon 835, users can capture and share their photos and videos almost instantly.

The main 12MP camera features the Sony IMX362 image sensor, with a large 1/2.55-inch, 1.4um pixel, f/1.7 aperture lens. The second 16MP camera has 2X optical zoom with a 10X total zoom, to bring distant objects into sharp focus. This innovative design lets users take brighter photos with better clarity, even in low light. Flip to the front, the selfie camera boosts light sensitivity and reduces image “noise” for clear, vivid photos.

The innovative camera hardware in the ZenFone 4 Pro is paired with advanced photo tools to help users create stunning, high-quality photos. The ASUS SuperPixel Engine is designed to increase captured light by up to 8X as well, while optical image stabilization (OIS) and the Qualcomm Spectra 180 ISP are engineered to provide automatic enhancements for clearer photos any time of day.

The rear dual-camera system incorporates TriTech+ technology. By using a combination of dual pixel phase-detection, subject-tracking, and laser autofocus, the camera can accurately adjust to a subject in just 0.03 seconds. Plus, with RGB-color correction, users can snap true-to-life colors.

Audio
The ZenFone 4 Pro also delivers a stunning audio experience. Equipped with both dual speakers and Headphone X 7.1 virtual surround sound, users can enjoy an immersive stereo experience whether they’re listening to music or streaming video with headphones. Hi-Res Audio certification indicates that the device supports 192-kHz/24-bit audio, which is 4X better than CDs.

Battery Life
Along with the superior power efficiency of the Snapdragon 835, the ZenFone 4 Pro boasts a 3600 mAh battery. The ASUS Boostmaster technology supplies 18W (9V/2A) of power and safeguards against overcharging. Just five minutes of charging can provide two hours of talk time.

Display and design
The sleek 5.5-inch AMOLED screen displays vivid colors in stunning 1920 x 1080 resolution. The ASUS Splendid technology powers an ambient light sensor, designed to adjust the color temperature of the phone’s display based on environmental lighting. Whether in the sunny outdoors or a dimly lit room, the screen adjusts, making it easy to watch, browse, and enjoy.

This slim, 6.2-ounce smartphone is designed with a 2.5D curved glass display and coated in Corning Gorilla Glass. Crafted with Nano Molding Technology, the phone’s smooth frame integrates the dual camera into its chassis seamlessly, so it can lay flat.

With focus on photos, ASUS announces new ZenFone 4 smartphones powered by Snapdragon

Last month ASUS announced the latest iteration of the ZenFone series, the ASUS ZenFone 4 and the ASUS ZenFone 4 Pro, marking an exciting advancement in mobile photography. The ASUS ZenFone 4 Pro features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Mobile Platform, and the ASUS ZenFone 4 comes with one of the two new 600-tier platforms, the Snapdragon 660 Mobile Platform and  Snapdragon 630 Mobile Platform.

All three smartphones boast next-generation camera technologies, such as innovative dual-camera systems, Sony image sensors, and optical image stabilization, that don’t sacrifice power or performance, thanks to Qualcomm Technologies.

ASUS ZenFone 4 Pro
The ASUS ZenFone 4 Pro is a luxury phone loaded with a variety of tools for photographers in every setting, all powered by the Snapdragon 835.

Cameras
The phone’s main 12MP camera features the Sony IMX362 image sensor, with a large 1/2.55-inch, 1.4µm pixel, F1.7 aperture lens. A 16MP second camera, a Sony IMX351 sensor, features a 120-degree wide-angle lens, as well as a 2X optical zoom for up to 10X total zoom. Portrait mode uses both lenses simultaneously to take striking portraits and close-ups capable of smooth bokeh-effect backgrounds. Together with the ASUS SuperPixel Engine, designed to increase captured light by up to 8X, and image stabilization, photogs can snap bright, clear photos at night and in low light.

The dual-camera system uses ASUS’s TriTech+ tool, which combines three focusing technologies: infrared lasers, traditional continuous autofocus, and phase detection auto focus, or PDAF, which is traditionally only found in DSLRs. TriTech+ is engineered to assess and use the best of these technologies automatically, depending on your photography subject, all in under nearly 0.03 seconds.

The cameras also include an assortment of PixelMaster camera modes that allow you to adjust settings. Battery life
The ZenFone 4 Pro’s innovative camera capabilities are boosted by the efficiency and power provided by the Snapdragon 835 mobile platform. Its impressive 3600mAh battery is engineered to provide up to two weeks of 4G standby time. The ASUS BoostMaster technology can provide 18W (9V/2A) of recharging power, and safeguards against overcharging. Just five minutes of charging can replenish two hours of 3G talk time, and 32 minutes can bring the ZenFone 4 Pro battery up to 50 percent.

Audio
The phone’s stereo speakers come with Hi-Res Audio certification, designating support for 24-bit/192kHz audio playback with low-distortion sounds, even at high volumes. Three noise cancelling microphones can remove unwanted environmental sounds for impressive call quality and audio recording clarity. A new AudioWizard app lets you tailor headphone audio to your liking for DTS Headphone:X theater quality 7.1 channel sound, while a combination of both Bluetooth 5.0 and Qualcomm aptX Low Latency tech is designed to deliver an enhanced wireless headphone experience.

Display and design
The 5.5-inch AMOLED display supports full HD resolution. Whether you’re in a sunny outdoor space or shooting in a dark room, the ASUS Splendid display technology can adjust to the screen’s color temperature based on the environment, making it easy to watch, share, and browse virtually anywhere.

The ZenFone 4 Pro continues the ZenFone’s legacy of sleek design, with its solid aluminum unibody, crafted by nano molding technology for a light-yet-strong frame. Its dual-camera setup is completely integrated within the phone chassis for a smooth look, allowing it to lay completely flat. ASUS ZenFone 4
There are two choices available for the ASUS ZenFone 4: one powered by the Snapdragon 660 mobile platform and another by the Snapdragon 630. Both are engineered to provide innovative dual-camera photography hardware, tools, and efficient battery performance, while supporting download speeds of up to 600 Mbps (LTE Cat 12) and upload speeds of 150 Mbps (LTE Cat 13) for superior, fast connectivity.

Cameras
The ZenFone 4’s main 12MP camera is equipped with the Sony IMX362 image sensor, designed with a 1/2.55-inch size, 1.4µm pixels f/1.8 aperture lens, so you can capture photos that are up to 5X clearer and brighter in low light. The second camera is equipped with a 120-degree wide-angle lens, giving photographers a 200-percent wider view than standard smartphone cameras. Combined with optical image stabilization (OIS), the ZenFone 4 allows blur-free handheld exposures of 0.25 seconds, allowing up to 5X more light to reach the camera sensor. This allows you to take crisp, clear images in a variety of low-light environments.

Performance and power
The ZenFone 4 with Snapdragon 660 powers up to 6GB of RAM with the Qualcomm Kryo 260 CPU and the Qualcomm Adreno 512 GPU, which offers a powerful 3D mobile game experience and battery efficiency. Its eight CPU cores utilize two clusters, one for demanding performance and the other for power efficiency. This helps to reduce the impact on battery life while you take photos and stream video.

The Snapdragon 630 based ZenFone 4 powers up to 6GB of RAM and features the Adreno 508 GPU. The Snapdragon 630 is designed to deliver 30 percent faster graphics performance than the previous generation, while continuing to power its innovative camera features and 3D gaming options.

Both the Snapdragon 660 and Snapdragon 630 use 14nm FinFET processors. Combined with the 3300mAh high capacity battery, the ZenFone 4 is designed for up to 23 days of 4G standby time. ASUS Bootmaster tech can provide 15W of power for two hours of 3G talk time with a five-minute charge, or 50 percent battery capacity with just 36 minutes of charging.

Design

Qualcomm and Nokia to Collaborate on Driving Wide-Scale Mobile 5G NR Deployments to Meet Growing Market Demand


— Companies accelerate interoperability testing and trials compliant with the 5G NR 3GPP specification, the global 5G standard

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM), and Nokia today announced plans to conduct interoperability testing and over-the-air field trials based on the 5G New Radio (NR) Release-15 specifications being developed by 3GPP. The testing and trials intend to drive the mobile ecosystem toward rapid validation and commercialization of 5G NR technologies at scale, enabling timely commercial network launches in 2019 based on 3GPP standard compliant 5G NR infrastructure and devices. 

There is clear and growing industry interest for 5G mobility applications to meet increasing mobile broadband needs and emerging use case requirements globally. A recent 5G consumer survey conducted by Qualcomm Technologies revealed that 48% of the respondents are likely to purchase a smartphone that supports 5G when available Furthermore, 5G was the top feature that consumers were willing to pay more for in their next mobile device.

In the testing and trials, the companies will showcase 5G NR technologies to efficiently achieve multi-gigabit per second data rates at latencies as low as 1-millisecond and significantly better reliability than today’s network, amongst other capabilities. These technologies will be critical to meeting the increasing connectivity requirements for emerging consumer mobile broadband experiences such as streaming high-fidelity video, immersive virtual/augmented reality, and connected cloud computing, as well as enabling new high-reliability, low-latency services for use cases such as autonomous vehicles, drones and industrial equipment. The Companies also recently collaborated on a whitepaper, Making 5G a reality: Addressing the strong mobile broadband demand in 2019 & beyond, that details their shared vision for how 5G NR technologies will address the increasing mobile broadband needs and beyond starting in 2019. 

The testing and trials will utilize the Nokia 5G FIRST solution, incorporating the Nokia AirScale base station transmitting over the 5G NR radio interface to the device prototype from Qualcomm Technologies. The companies will test end-to-end applications over-the-air between the base station and the device to simulate real-world scenarios across a broad set of 5G NR use cases and deployment scenarios. The testing will include 5G NR operation in sub-6 GHz spectrum bands such as 3.5 GHz and 4.5 GHz, as well as millimeter wave (mmWave) spectrum bands such as 28 GHz and 39 GHz, to trial the 5G NR unified design across diverse spectrum bands.

To demonstrate the performance and efficiency enhancements 5G NR will bring, the testing and trials will showcase advanced 3GPP 5G NR technologies including Massive Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) antenna technology, beamforming techniques, adaptive self-contained TDD, scalable OFDM-based waveforms to support wider bandwidths, advanced coding and modulation schemes, and a new flexible, low-latency slot structure based design. This will include 5G NR operation in mmWave spectrum, employing advanced 5G NR antenna technology to deliver robust and sustained mobile broadband communications, including non-line-of-sight (NLOS) environments and device mobility.

The interoperability testing, which will start in the second half of 2017, are intended to track closely with the first 3GPP 5G NR specification that will be part of Release 15. The Companies are also collaborating with network operators to conduct 5G NR over-the-air field trials starting in 2018 across various regions including China, Europe, Japan, and the USA. Tracking the 3GPP specification is important because it promotes adherence and validation with the global 5G standard, accelerating the time to standard-compliant devices and infrastructure. It will also ensure forward compatibility to future 3GPP 5G NR releases.
