Meet the new HTC U11 life powered by Snapdragon 630

Earlier this year, HTC released the HTC U11, which featured Edge Sense that lets you do some things like never before. A simple squeeze can take photos, launch apps, and call up a voice assistant. Far from a one-note gimmick, the HTC U11 also came packed with top-notch hardware and support for multiple hands-free assistants.

Now HTC is welcoming a new member to its HTC U11 family — the HTC U11 life, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 Mobile Platform — bringing many of the great innovations from the flagship HTC U11 to a more affordable smartphone.

Squeeze the phone, not your wallet
The Snapdragon 630 is engineered to support HTC U11 life’s high-end features such as LTE connectivity, fast autofocus, immersive audio, and true-to-life display colors in a tidy, energy-efficient package.

Like the HTC U11, the HTC U11 life comes with HTC’s revolutionary Edge Sense, which lets users simply squeeze the phone to prompt specified actions (things like launch the camera, turn the flashlight on, or launch a digital assistant). The HTC U11 life also features support for both the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa assistants. And thanks to the integrated power-efficient Qualcomm Aqstic audio tech, the Google Assistant hotword feature is nearly always “on,” with minimal effect on your battery. Qualcomm Aqstic is just one facet of the Snapdragon 630’s intelligent power system, which is designed to maximize battery life for extended talk time, video streaming and gaming.

Speaking of gaming, the Qualcomm Adreno 508 GPU is made to deliver top-shelf gaming experiences with advanced 3D graphics. The device’s All-Ways Aware sensor hub allows the HTC U11 life to be aware at virtually all times for location tracking and motion sensing to deliver some cool applications, with minimal battery drain.

The 630 also features the 14-bit Qualcomm Spectra 160 ISP, designed to support smooth zoom, fast autofocus, and outstanding image quality. The Spectra 160 is engineered to work with the HTC U11 life’s Phase Detection Autofocus to create zero shutter lag and little-to-no-blur in photos.

This more affordable addition to the HTC U11 family maintains some of the most sought-after hardware features, while also being optimized for performance. The HTC U11 life in Sapphire Blue is available in the US and Canada beginning today at htc.com, and in T-Mobile stores nationwide and att-mobile.com starting tomorrow.

More of a good thing
HTC also announced the HTC U11+ today. Like the HTC U11, the HTC U11+ is powered by the Snapdragon 835 mobile platform, and comes with a couple noteworthy hardware upgrades compared with the HTC U11. Notably, the HTC U11+’s display has been extended by a half-inch to a full six inches. While the display is physically larger, the HTC U11+’s svelte 18:9 aspect ratio is perfect for one-handed use.

Under the hood, the HTC U11+ extends the battery life of its predecessor with a 30 percent larger battery. Additionally, the HTC U11+ boasts a waterproof rating of IP68 (improving upon the HTC U11’s IP67 rating), to handle wear, tear, and the occasional splashes.

The phone will also include HTC BoomSound for powerful audio as well as a pair of noise-cancelling and situationally aware HTC USonic earbuds.

On the software side, HTC U11+ will come with Edge Sense and will ship with Android’s latest Oreo OS (including new features like picture-in-picture, enhanced performance, and optimized battery life). The device will be available in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.
