Harnessing the power of VR with Power Rangers and Snapdragon 835

Five ordinary high-school kids band together to save their small town — and the world — from alien monsters. That’s right, your favorite teenage superheroes are back with their Zords, and before they hit movie theatres on March 24th, the newest Power Rangers are coming to CES via a virtual reality experience created by Qualcomm Technologies and Lionsgate.

“Power Rangers: Zords Rising” is a 2-minute immersive mobile VR experience that allows users to gear up and experience what it’s like to be part of the Power Ranger team. Built to showcase the power of the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, the VR experience is designed to give demo users an immersive look at the larger-than-life Zord vehicles used by the Power Rangers. Viewers can select their favorite Power Ranger and join them in the cockpit for some Zord-piloting action.

Industry analysts predict that untethered, mobile VR will be the primary platform to drive mass adoption of virtual reality. With early and deep roots in mobile, Qualcomm Technologies brings significant expertise to the new world of VR. The new Snapdragon 835 is engineered to support the advanced VR technologies that make “Power Rangers: Zords Rising” possible, including 6-degrees of freedom movement (aka 6DOF), sub-18 millisecond latency, 4K display at 60 frames per second, sensor fusion, 3D audio, and superior GPU and CPU performance per watt.

What that means is the VR experience won’t be interrupted by distractions like jerky movement, lag, or low resolution. Much like the Power Rangers themselves whose tagline is “together we are more,” when these visual, audio, and intuitive technologies work seamlessly together, they can create an unforgettable, immersive experience.

See “Saban’s Power Rangers” in theaters on March 24, and experience “Power Rangers: Zords Rising” for yourself at our CES booth (Central Hall #10948).
